Gasland: A film by Josh Fox

This is a global coalition of mothers formed on behalf of children who cannot vote or make public policy. As their advocates and protectors, we support energy sources that do not fill our children’s environment—and thus their bodies—with toxic pollutants. Recognizing that our children’s lives are inextricably bound to the abiding ecology of the planet, we support energy sources that do not threaten the stability of the world’s climate, acidify its oceans, or fill the air with asthma- inducing, cancer-causing fumes. As mothers are the first environments for our children, we mothers support energy sources that do not threaten the inner sanctuaries of pregnancy with chemicals linked to birth defects, preterm birth, and cognitive deficits.

Dem Women, or UCDW, is an independent, grassroots organization devoted to bringing more Ulster County Democratic women into the political process and electing well-qualified Democratic women to public office at every level. Dem Women functions as a network and resource for all politically active Democratic women in the county. We provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas and encourage new Democratic candidates and activists by providing mentors, training and support. Dem Women welcomes as members Democratic women and men from every part of Ulster County and beyond, from every walk of life and every constituency. We support and liaise with the Ulster County Democratic Committee, the Democratic Party’s official organization in the county.

We are a group of volunteers who shape public policy decisions by organizing and mobilizing groups of like minded citizens. Our current focus is to stop the process of hydraulic fracturing of gas wells in the Midatlantic States and Nationally. We are working to raise public awareness of the unacceptable risks posed by this process to our water, air, and mother earth, thus endangering our health and our lives. We seek to empower people to organize, unite and take actions towards a safer, healthier future.
