ORGANIZATION DETAILS SCOPE
Ohio Sierra Club

January 10th, 2011 Photo Courtesy of ODNR Through a collaboration of the Sierra Club and other environmental organization across the state, a letter was submitted to the Governors office, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and the local officials in Jefferson County. In a recent and fast moving development, the state has proposed a plan to sell the Jefferson Lake State Park to Jefferson County. This may not seem problematic on the surface, but the danger lies in the details! The state has seen dwindling funds to run the state park and keep up with increasing maintenance costs. This has forced them to find other ways to keep the park open, which could include oil and gas drilling once the park exchanges hands from the state to Jefferson County. The County has stated that it intends to open areas of the park to oil and natural gas drilling, greatly increasing the potential environmental impact. The state should not sell the park, but find other ways to fund this great public resource so people in Jefferson County and across the state can continue to enjoy the great outdoors at Jefferson Lake State Park. A facebook friend posted this and I want to make sure this won't hurt the environment?? "Were looking to lease mineral rights in Kentucky. This is your chance to change KY for the better. Be on the forefront of this major development. If you have mineral rights to potentially lease, contact me asap. Kentucky has more natural gas than coal. Using it will stop the venting that is currently polluting the atmosphere and allow for cheaper energy costs across the board.:)" I then asked how is this not fracking?/ he responded with "No fricken Fracking!!! We are simply capturing the venting gas currently being released into the atmosphere. We can also drill like oil to release the trapped gas at the surface. No fracking or pressurized cracking of the mantle that allows for oil to get into water ways. We are doing it the right way. Consolidation first of vented natural gas."

Please help in the blocking of a permit to drill a frack waste water desposal well in our community. Where millions of gallons of this toxic water will be pumped into the ground very near many of the homes who now have clean deep water wells.( Within a 1000 ft of many homes)

MI citizen/Irish Hills waterkeepers

Incredible, secretative and relentless drilling in both Jackson CT (Irish Hills) with 40 wells drilled since 9/2010, and now 15 wells (to expand to 30) in Lenawee County MI since January, 2011 The Adrian Public High School District Board just signed mineral right exploration of the 127 acre school property which is located less than 100 yards from the Lake Adrian single public water source for the entire city-Adrian, MI.-pop. 21000. West Bay Exploration and SAVOY Energy have plans to surround the town and march down towards the OHIO line and onto NEW YORK. Four well farms have been built/expanded within a 6 mile distance northwest of town. I personally have watched the evolution of same beginning 2/15/2011 and ending on 4/15/2011 (3 days before the ASD Board signed) In 60 days. In following this, I can say it makes me sick to my stomach. There has been no offficial from the state, county or town interested in concerns of the citizens. In the month of March, over 4000 letters have been sent out to property owners in Adrian soliciting leasing/mineral rights. Public officials have not held any public meeting or forum to educate the interested public on the dangers of oil drilling/fracking. What can be done? I request your assistance, please
